Hi,
Different makes e.g. white could be speedfit, grey - Hep2o pipe.
I have mixed and matched fittings with no problems.

Er, one's white, and the other is grey. At one time, Speedfit did a white B-Pex pipe while Polyplumb did Polybutylene in grey and that was how I could tell the types apart. Now Speedfit do both B-Pex and Polybutylene in white so those rules go out the window.
Have a look here.

Steve, be careful about mixing inserts between the two, Speedfit and Hep2o have different internal diameters.

terrain make their waste pipes in grey as to polypipe. marley is white as are others. the grey pipe of whatever make are usually slightly bigger in diameter than the white, compression fittings will usually couple the two satisfactorily, solvent weld generally will not.
