Our boiler heats both the Central heating and the hot water. The hot water coming out of the bath and sink taps is nearly scaliding, even though the theromstat is thurned down to approx 45 - 50 deg. I understand that the standard setting is 60 deg ?
I suspect the thermostat may be faulty, but how can I check.

When the boiler is running and I turn the thermostat down or up, you can hear the valve opening and closing to heat either the water or the central heating.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Depends where the thermostat is located on the tank, it should be about 1/4 up the tank. Try turning the thermostat down even further.
If the water hot water is truly scalding you need to turn down the thermostat on the boiler itself.

hi i would check that the valve is closing by feeling the pipe to the cylinder about 10 mins after you hear it click it may just be the motor running i had one with the rubber washer had disintigrated inside the valve causing the same problem
