leaking toilet

I have leak which seems to be coming from underneath my cistern and dripping onto the floor. I'm no expert in these matters, so please don't laugh, but I think the type of toilet is called 'close coupled'?The cistern sits directly on to the pan. Anyway it is leaking from the joint where the two meet. Is there a washer between the both of them which could need replacing? I haven't taken the cistern off yet as it would mean diconnecting it from the wall to lift it off. If it's any help it was bought from B&Q (boginabox...or something of that ilk)Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Sidspanner,
You will need to replace the washer between the pan and cistern, remove the cistern and take the washer with you so you have a pattern - there are many different types on the market.

likely needs a new 'doughnut' washer and/or the back nut needs tightening

Yep as per Nitro.
A good tip - fit new donut washer (I use a little silicon too), also tighten syphon washer. Then fill cistern with water to check for leaks before you refit it.
