Newbie with Central Heating Pump Snags??

Hi,

I have what I consider to be a "standard" (but Oil Fired) C/H & H/W system, my hot water is fine no problems. My C/H however, is not; I noticed a louder than usual noise from Pump (possibly Grundfos Selectric UPS 15-50, located in airing cupboard with boiler) and switched off C/H to investigate, now pump does not start when C/H switched on, despite bleeding (there was some air in rads and pump, now gone). I strongly suspect I have a broken pump but before I call someone to come out (replacing pump beyond my skills (and tools!)), can anyone offer any advice? Searching forums I haven't found anything related.

Gratefully,

SG.

With the power off, remove the big screw on the end of the pump to expose the rotor shaft (some water dribbles out). Fit a large flat blade screwdriver into the slot in the rotor end and turn the pump by hand. Does it feel free or is there signs of bearing wear?

Switch the boiler on. Does the shaft spin? If not, try giving it a helping hand.

Steve & plumbbob,

Thanks for your advice, very grateful - for info I have taken both bits! Pump now working after a spin and a little help but still noisy so have ordered a replacment to be fitted in next week or so.

Thanks again.
