Ideal Standard Dual Flush

I have an Ideal Standard dual flush toilet.I want to take the cistern cover off to clean behind and put a loo block in..Following instructions I took out the push buttons and then wanted to unscrew the screw inside to release the thingy???? enabling cistern cover removal.
Problem is the screw has a long shallowish slot in it and is made of plastic or nylon and of course is screwed in so tight it won't budge.I'm worried that it might break if I push down too hard or the whole mechanism might turn round inside.
Any ideas out there?
Thanks

It should turn but make sure you use the right sized 'driver to fit the slot.

Alternatively hang you loo block over the edge of the pan in oine of those plastic cage thingys.

As Rosebery says, it will undo, but consider that it is not designed to be repeatedly removed which you will have to do if you want to keep adding one of those loo blocks.

As a plumber, frankly, I hate those blocks as they stain everything and any repairs or adjustments leave me with blue fingers for the next two days.
