since having afew power cuts in the last month, the timer clock on the
boiler has started making a kind of fluttering noise!!
the only way to describe it, is that it sounds like a big bird/pidgeon flapping its wings!!

what could be the problem?
any advice welcome

Replace it - not worth even trying to repair, it'll be the motor that keeps the time that'll be knackered.

You need to change the whole timer, should be pretty simple as long as you can still get the parts, you haven't said what boiler age/make/model etc etc

REMEMBER to isolate electrical supply.
