Set-up: downsatirs modern loo; mains fed; concealed pipework behind tiled wall.

A neighbour recently had a guy in to change the washer on the inlet valve although it may have been the diaphragm (not sure which as neighbour a bit vague) and now the noise made in the pipeworrk going from the cistern to that below the floor is very loud, like an that of an elephant is the best I can give.

Everything works as well as would be expected except for the noise.

No loose fittings within the cistern so I suppose it isn't water hammer.

Suggestions please.

Hello mate, I know the elephant noise you're talking about. It's most probably the inlet valve, but the best way to check it to open and close the valve as the noise is occuring. You should find that each 1/4 turn changes the noise. New valve required buddy!

Yes, that is probably the inlet valve. It happened to me already and I’ve just replace the valve and it worked. To make sure you should check the valve first if it is already damaged.
