I have a leak from the waste of my sink.
There is an additional connection at the top of the waste which I think is called a silent trap. I guess it's supposed to allow air in but it actually allows water out.
Any ideas why it's started to do this and how to fix it please?
Having looked further, it may be an antivac trap.

Sounds as though you have a blockage in the waste pipe or bottle trap.

Put something under the trap to catch the water.
Unscrew both the compression fittings on the trap.
Remove the trap and separate the bowl from the main body.
If it is full of rubbish clean it out and re-assemble it.

If it is'nt ... I suggest you start checking your waste pipe below the trap for a blockage.

The anti vac trap should seal and prevent waster and gas from escaping even if it is under pressure of a blockage.

The fact this is not happening suggests it is faulty. It may have gunged up. Often many makes can be dismantled and cleaned or replaced.

Thanks, that did it.
Once I'd got the trap out I found that the anti-vac part had gotten furred up.
Quick descale and it's all good as new.
