If it is a mixer type shower that is tank fed then it seems you have connected to mains cold water ? because the cold water pressure is greater this will backfill the tank - causing it to overflow.
The cold water must be tank fed also.

I presume you mean the water is coming from the small pipe behind where the shower hose is?
This is not an overflow but a pressure relief valve designed to protect the shower if the hose or head becomes blocked. When excess pressure is experienced, a small ball bearing is forced out allowing water to flow down the pipe
This part is supposedly non resettable so ought to be replaced. If however, you can find and replace the ball bearing it may be possible to avoid buying a new part. Of course, you need to address the cause of the over pressure in the first place.

Well I was only guessing - with the limited info provided - lol
The type of shower helps - hopefully Plumbbob has solved it - still with limited info though.
What overflow/where is the overflow ?????

Hi
Did you fix this problem?
I have the same shower Triton Hawaii 2 electric shower (8.5kW), fed from cold mains, no tank.
When turned on some water comes from the shower head but most comes from the pipe on the right of the hose. What i believe to be the pressure relief valve has some electric device in it with two wires connected to it. Is this the part i need to take off and replace?
Picture attached.

Probably not. The part with "wires" is the low pressure sensor which stops the heating element form working if the input water pressure is too low.
The pressure relief valve is the transparent pipe protruding from the bottom of the casing just to the right of the outlet pipe.

The transparent pipe doesn't have a valve on it?
What could be the problem with this shower?
