I am brand new to this forum, and I am sure I will have some silly questions about home plumbing to ask, so please dont laugh( well at least too much)

The house I live in was built in 1968 and there is a header tank in the loft, which works perfectly well. I checked it the other day and its not covered, just open. My questions is this:
should I get a cover or just leave it alone as its working

Absolutely yes, fit a lid!

All sorts of matter from insulation to dead birds have been known to contaminate the water.

You probably won't be able to buy a purpose made lid, but anything plastic, or wood covered with polythene will do.

The top should be insulated too.
