I am in the process of planning a kitchen extension and would like to install an island unit which contains the sink and a dishwasher. If the floor is concrete what is the best way to get services (water, waste and electricity) across to the island. Do I need to bury a plastic service pipe through which everything can run? I suspect a similar problem will arise with piping to the central heating radiators.

As you will have guessed I have little or no experience of dealing with concrete floors. The rest of the house has a suspended wooden floor with services running under it. Should I do the same in the extension?

yes you will need to run all services prior to concreting. waste pipe can just go in as it is no need for sheathing etc - JUST MAKE SURE that you have sufficient fall in the correct direction prior to pouring concrete - you won't be able to put it right afterwards.

copper pipes will have to be wrapped in denso tape and electrial wires will have to be in conduit.
