Replacing my boiler

Hi, I am renovating a two bed bungalow and want to replace the exisiting floor standing boiler. Looking at web sites it seems that regulations now state I need to install a combi system which will do away with the loft tanks and cylinder. Can I not just update with a new boiler and leave the old system as is??
