Hi , would be so very grateful for any advice or suggestions, that anyone could offer me.
I have no cold water in my bathroom & the toilet cistern is empty.
I have cold water in the kitchen, my washing machine & dishwasher are working fine.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Have you considered it might be frozen?

Check the level of water in the header tank upstairs.

Thanks for quick reply :o)

Been up into the loft & tank does'nt appear to be frozen. Apolyogies for my appariant lack of knowledge re the workings of water system, To be honest Im completely overwhelmed & feeling out of my depth, really can't afford the cost of calling plumber out, was hoping that I can gather any information & if poss not have to impose my problem on friend who will come & do his best to repair / replace problem for me, I know that he's busy though.

Once again thanks for replying.

Hi
The cold water to the kitchen will almost certainly be supplied by the water main.
The cold water in the bathroom most probably comes from the big tank in the loft.
Unless you have 2 big tanks in the loft it probably fills up the hot water cylinder as well.
Does the hot water work ok?

Also, if the header tank in the loft has no lid, debris may have fallen in and blocked the feed pipe to the bathroom.

Does the bath cold fill work? Do you have a mixer shower (not electric) and does it work?

Hi, the hot water is fine, got a large circular tank with polystyrene lid & small rectangular tank with thin plastic lid in the loft & central heating that heats the hot water in hot water tank (the ciruclar tank appears to be free of any debris just a brown sediment on the bottom whilst the other was very dirty with thick deposits on the inside sides & on the ball float - both ball floats appear ok & are half under the water & half visible above water).
I have an electric shower which is working ok and theres no cold water for the bath or sink.

Thanks for replying, much appreciated.

There should be an isolating valve for the bathroom cold in the airing cupboard. Has this been turned off. In fact has anything been done to the plumbing before this fault occurred or did it just start??

The last option I could suggest is the feed to the taps is airlocked but this is unusual to happen spontaneously.

The surest way of shifting an airlock is using a hose connected to the cold tap downstairs. Hold the other end up against the cold bath tap and have someone turn on the water for about 5 or 10 secs. This should force any trapped air out of the way.
