Hi

As I live alone and am totally clueless about plumbing, I recently got a local handyman to do a couple of plumbing jobs for me. Nothing complicated, just a repair to the toilet and a new washer on the kitchen mixer tap.

He did the work and I am happy with that. But when he left, the water pressure didn't seem quite as strong as it was previously. So I turned the stopcock a little more open (not fully). The pressure is now fine.

Was it ok to do this? I only ask because when he was here, he asked what kind of boiler I had before he turned the stopcock back on. Could I have turned it on too far?

There is no need for you to worry about how far the stop tap is opened. There is no link between that and the question about the type of boiler.

Some people leave the stop tap open only slightly simply because the water pressure causes the water to spray as it comes out of the tap.
