Hi there
I had my immersion heater replaced about 6 months ago and had no problems with hot water since and then a few days ago there was no hot water again. The emergency hot water switch works and heats the water so i assume the immersion needs replacing again. Why would this be?

You're not really making sense....
The "emergency hot water" switch you refer to is the immersion heater - Which would suggest that it is working fine.... How else do you heat the water? Central heating boiler perhaps? Is this working properly?

Hi there
I have an elson hot water tank and there are two switches to heat the tank and two immersion heaters. One switch is left on the whole time and heats the water when it is economy 9 (no not 7 for some reason) time so i always have hot water. Then there is another switch which heats a smaller amount of water if i need a boost (which i call emergency as its expensive!).
I had to have the immersion replaced on the normal tank when it made a loud popping noise earlier this year which meant i had to have a draincock fitted as there was not one. All has been fine since and the switch has been left on the whole time and then it just stopped supplying me hot water. But the boost switch still works.
When i moved into the flat there were no instructions on the hot water and i was advised to keep one on the whole time and use the other if i needed extra water.
My heating is completely different and is ceiling heating, but don't get me started on that one.
Apologies for not making sense before, i only have women in my family and we all understand eachother's DIY terms which are rubbish i know!
