Replace Ceramic Cistern System Inards

Hello
I have a ceramic cistern with a plastic "contraption" inside. This is all the refil regulation, etc. The ceramic cistern is sat on the toilet. I cannot replace it without replacing the entire toilet. The cistern has no internal container. Its just full of water.
I have a dripping leak and I suspect the plastic contraption has a perished washer.
My question is, can you buy replacement "inards" for these cisterns? And if so, are there a standardised size, etc?
I've fitted an internal cistern upstairs so have no issue doing this. But I want to be sure before I turn off the water and dismantle it!
Thanks for any advice. I can post a photo later if it helps.
