Shower Pump Fitting Concern After Bathroom Refit

I have just had a complete refit in our Bathroom the bathroom fitter was highly recommended and not cheap. However we have discovered things that make us very uneasy He boxed in the toilet and as he was boxing it in he decided that would be a good place to fit the pump However on closer inspection he has left the pump free standing on the cardboard box the pump came in he has also connected the pump to the toilet so every time we flush the pump engages This does not seem very professional to me leaving the pump on a cardboard box ??? So if the box got wet and rotted away the pump I presume would be left floating in the air. When confronted about this he said it was to reduce the noise from the pump which seems ridiculous to us and why connect a shower pump to the toilet can anyone explain that ? Apart from that there a few other problems with his fitting. Is this what to expect from tradesmen nowadays or have we been unlucky even though he was highly recommended by a friend and it is costing thousands although we have withheld the final payment ???
