Old Fireplace Removed Upstairs but Gas Pipes Still in Place?

Hi,
We have removed the two upstairs chimney breasts. The downstairs chimney breasts are still there, even though we can no longer use them.
However, the gas pipes to the upstairs bedrooms are still in place and we would like to have all these old, unused gas pipes going upstairs removed. Does anyone know where these pipes usually run along (i.e. how are they connected to the main supply?). Right now we can just see pipes popping up from the floor in the upstairs bedrooms.
Thanks
Jaina
