Washing Machine Plumbing but no Valve?

Hi, I've just moved into a rented property which had no washing machine so bought new one with installation from Currys. On delivery they said couldn't install as there was no washing machine valve to turn water off and legged it out the door.

I've had a look, to be sure I turned off mains water, unscrewed brass cap, connected everything up and turned water back on. However the washing machine doesn't fill up. On the appliance tee, there is a small screw (rounded off) as shown on the picture. If I unscrewed with pliers should this allow water to washing machine? Also, is there anything that could go wrong, what would happen if screw snapped off etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi noideapaul

Looking at your picture someone has removed the washing machine valve handles on the valve. Turning the screw wont turn the valve on, the part of the valve the screw is inserted into is what will turn the valve on and off, try using a shifter or adjustable spanner to turn the valve although they look pretty old and may be pretty stiff.
What they should look like is this:

If you can turn the water supply to them off you may be able to remove them and fit replacements
Hope that helps
