Removing drain valve from water heater tank

by 0liver12 » Tue Oct 06, 2020 5:43 pm

Hi,

The drain valve from my water heater has been leaking recently and I'm trying to replace it. However, due to its location, I can't use a normal wrench to remove it (see photos). Is there any specific tool I could use to remove the valve?

Hi oliver12
If it's not leaking from the tank join don't remove the body just buy the same pattern drain valve and replace the middle bit. You could damage the tank if you try to replace the whole thing.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't realise I could damage the tank by removing the valve completely. I'll try to replace just the middle bit then.

Thanks,
Oli

Managed to replace the middle section but it's still leaking. There seems to be a washer in the drain cock still (see image). It's completely jammed in there, should this be removed?
