Hot water on Kitchen mixer taking it's time to start running

by scg1889 » Thu Oct 22, 2020 2:13 pm

Hi,

Our Kitchen mixer tap has slowly over last 6 months started to take a few seconds before any hot water appears. It's not every day but today it took a full 10 seconds from switching the tap on to any hot water appearing. Rest of the house is absolutely fine for hot water taps and after it's had it's wobble it can be fine for days so wondering how to pinpoint where the issue is. The cold absolutely blasts out and the tap is a Bristan and only a couple of years old. We have a traditional gravity fed sytem for heating and water.

Any help greatly appreciated

Hi scg1889,
Depends on the type of tap, if it is a jumper type tap the jumper may be sticking.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the reply. Are Jumper mechanisms the ones in taps you turn? In which case don't think so,mine uses ceramic discs and valves.

I've attached the pic of exact model

Hi scg1889
I think these taps incorporate a non return valve on the hot supply as required by water board regulations.
The valve is sticking but until it stops the hot flow completely I suggest you do nothing. When this happens you may be lucky if the valve is in the supply leg.
