Cast Iron stack Pipe - Help on connection to PVC pipe All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

Hello,
I would be grateful for your advice,
Please see the cast iron stack - pics below. I like to attach a pvc pipe to the iron pipe that sticks out. The piping work will then run through to connect to the pipes into the kitchen etc.

I would like to know what are the appropriate connections? It seems the plumber that plumbed in my kitchen did not do a great job and it has been the main cause of blockages. There was probably copper piping work there before but it was removed to put a make shift PVC pipe connection.

The iron/ copper pipe sticks out in a diagonal position (its really award position which I can't really see fully ). Its 1.5 inches long, 2inch thickness with a 40mm diameter hole.
We have tried rubber couplings 2" by 2" & reducing rubber coupling 2inch by (1.5 &1"). The rubber couplings 4.5inches in length and the iron pipe that sticks out is only 1.5inches in length so the couplings still cause it too leak. From trying different ways it seems a pipe needs to be connected by the hole and not about the outer surface of the pipe (the groves from outside of the pipe show that its already has a protection -if that makes sense).
Any other suggestions? I will call a plumber but I have done this year and none of them took the initiative to get to the source of the main problem....

You seem to have 2 different problems: blocking of the waste pipe from the kitchen and connecting the waste pipe to an existing boss on the main cast iron pipe.
It is difficult to see from your images what the arrangement is. However, I don’t think a length of cast iron pipe has ever been available with a 2” boss moulded in it, so this is probably an add on. If this is the issue you could either remove it and fit a proper boss with shoulders or cut out the section and fit a plastic section incorporating a suitable boss.

Thanks very much for your reply! Very interesting. Your advice is a long lines what the plumber said to me over the phone so grateful that it verifies everything suggested. The plumbers are coming tomorrow (I hope).
The iron pipe is inside a 22cm width cupboard (boxed in) so its very hard to see anything so hence the poor pictures! I will keep this post updated :))
