Help identifying bathroom sink drainage fitting

I need some help please. I am fixing a leak on my bathroom sink, which I've almost done. However the pipe leading from the trap to the waste pipe was connected via a blue plastic stopper thing which the previous person had somehow wedged into the drain pipe that goes into the wall.

The problem is that the blue thing doesn't fit properly, so I'm trying to find a replacement at slightly smaller size. I've taken it to a couple of plumber's merchants and they sort of know what it is but have no idea who it's made by or where I can buy one. One of them suggested it might be a German thing.

Anyone got any ideas? Photos attached. Thanks in advance...

Hi steve5312,
Suggest you get a straight compression coupling and forget the plastic plug. Check the outside diameter of the trap and the inside and outside diameter of the waste pipe. Search for waste compression couplings and see what matches.
