Water hammer noise when using new kitchen sink

by mollienathan » Wed Sep 14, 2022 12:29 pm

Hi there

Hoping I might get some advice or knowledge.

Have moved into a house for months ago and never noticed any water hammer. The house has several bathrooms, newly added washing machine and dishwasher but we also had a newly fitted sink & tap

However over the last few weeks we have noticed major water hammer noise when using the new kitchen sink especially when using the hot tap. The hammer only happens when using the sink and the noise only comes from the pipes and tap on this sink - it does not happen in any other room or in any other faucets or appliances are being used…

At first we thought it was because we have extremely high pressure however we are now wondering if it is the tap itself that is causing an issue as it only happens on this tap and since we had this installed?

Hi mollienathan,
If you are referring to a single clonking noise when you turn off the tap, then you have some loose pipe work. If it's a continuous series of bangs then it's probably the tap itself.
