Another noisy cistern

In the last few weeks our downstairs cistern has become very noisy (similar to a recent post likening the sound to a cruise liner's horn). When we flush it, it makes a loud groaning noise which gradually reduces until the cistern has refilled. My first thought was that the ball valve was fouling the side of the cistern but I have removed the lid (a technical achievement for me!) and can see no problems. The other cisterns in the house are fine. The cistern (and the house) is not yet 4 years old. By the way, it is a two-button type flush, in case that makes a difference. To my knowledge, there has been no change to water pressure.

I had the same problem, as the cistern refilled a gradual hum turned into a roar and all the pipes in the flat shock. After several weeks trying to adjust the pressure in the pipes I eventually replaced the old ball cock inlet valve with a 'Fluidmaster 400' which I got in B+Q for about a tenner I think? and now it's quiet as a mouse.

See our project on cisterns, tanks and valves for full information on how to repair toilet valves and flushes
