Hi earthgate,
Yes you can but you must incorporate a trap of some sort. Solutions - cap the soil pipe with a stop end which has a socket for 40mm waste pipe, fit shower trap onto this; .dig down and convert the pipe to plastic soil pipe and use plastic fittings to connect the shower trap.

Hi stoneyboy,
Pipe is clay and 200mm I assume I'm going to have to dig it out?

Hi earthgate,
It is just the collar that is 200mm, once you remove this you will find a 4” clay pipe. If you wish to join 110mm plastic to this you can buy a rubber joiner which is specifically designed for this with two jubilee clips.
