Flush pipe leaks

Just fitted a new low level cistern and pan. The old pan was an S bend type and therefore its position was fixed. This may or may not be relevant. Try as I may, on flushing I cannot stop leaking where the flush pipe enters the pan. These dry joints confuse me. Have tried smearing the area with vaseline but to no avail. Does the horizontal part of the flush pipe have to penetrate a minimum distance?
This apparent simple installation is doing my head in.
Any tips will be welcome.

is it an external or internal flush cone, you may have cut the flushpipe on the bend ,if so,i think the only way round it would be to get another flushpipe.
