Ideally the feed to a shower pump from the hot water cylinder should be a dedicated supply. But Is it acceptable for the feed to the pump to be supplied from the lower half of the cylinder's vent pipe ? I hope it is because that is what I would have to do when I fit a pump. :?

I have seen many installations where this works ok, but the header tank must be in the loft and preferably as high as possible. This is to avoid air from being drawn down the expansion pipe and into the pump.
Shower pumps are thirsty beasts, and you may be wise to install an additional header tank
Remember also, that the cold draw off from the tank must be below that of the hot so if the tank runs dry, the hot flow will stop first.
