hi there

tried fitting my waste to belfast (butler's) sink, but it leaks, so I must have got it wrong!

I had

threaded waste
2x spongy foam looking washers
1 nut for threaded waste

I arranged like this (from top down)

waste
washer
boss green
sink
boss green
washer
nut

should I have used silicone instead of boss green? or boss white instead?

not sure what I did wrong.

because the bottom of the belfast is rough and unfinished, I obviously have to do something special.

any pointers gratefully received!

I would try using putty, this should form a watertight seal.

plumbers mate would be what i would use
were the threaded section comes thru the sink i would fill with plumbers mate
i would normally dispense with the top washer and use plumbers mate or silicone

I always use clear silicone. The rubber ring can seal between the nut and underside of the sink, but doesn't stop seepage through the threads.

Many basin wastes don't use a washer underneath so silicone the porcelain and the first 1/4" of waste thread showing and tighten up. Then smear the excess round to create a perfect seal.

Works every time.
