central heating problem

Hi
i am having problems with my central heating ,what is happening is water is going back up the vent pipe & into the expansion tank but if i turn off the cold water supply from the expansion tank which tops up the system it seems to stop

Under no circumstances should the heating be run with the supply turned off! The system may run short of water and therefore be potentially dangerous.

Water overflowing out of the expansion pipe is caused by a poorly designed system.

Turning the pump speed down may be one way of removing the problem but may cause some rads not to get hot. The only other way is to re design where the expansion is.

thanks for your prompt reply Martin
i think the problem may lie with the new towel radiatoor i installed i had 1 radiator in my bathroom which i removed and replaced it with 2 small towel radiators 1 of them is above the side of the bath which is 130 inches off the floor (reason it is there is because the better half was always leaving towel on radiator which is at the other end of the bathroom )
