I need to replace an old wc in our cloak room. The pan has been cemented to the floor and the waste pipe ,which is in the floor apears to be sealed with plumbers mait.What is the best way of removing the toilet and do the new waste fittings need to be sealed with more plumbers mait.
Are the new copper push fittings any good or should I stick with the solder ring type.

The cement used in fixing the toilet is very weak mix, and a good thump or two with the fist should loosen it. If not smash it (It's good fun). Just be careful not to damage the pipe. You should have no problems getting modern fitting to fit without Plumber's Mait except if you are fitting a close coupled (cistern sits on toilet) - you may have problems of not being able to get the toilet back to the wall.

Have never used copper pushfit always use either Speedfit, Hep2o or solder.

They’re only one way to get it off, use a hammer and smash it.

You may have to replace the floorboards after like we do.

Its going to cast iron soil stack, so you will need to cut it back and get a flexible coupling for it so you can add some plastic pipe.

Use solder rings, not push fit.
