Fitting RADIATOR HELP All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

I bought a radiator from BQ its an [size=18]Horizontal radiator.[/size].. its been in the garage for a while but we found that it would only fit vertically. cant take it back its been too long.. Stupid mistake but is there a way to make this work.. I know it has a red dot on the right side of the radiator to indicate the water "in flow" side if that makes sence???[color=red][/color] :oops:

assuming that its a standard wall hung radiator...

horizontal radiators are designed for exactly that - horizontal installation. the brackets won't be able to support the radiator if you try to hang it vertically.

ebay it and buy another one of the correct size.

Hi thank you for the reply. the brackets do work and hold the radiator vertically also looks like vertical one you can buy but I know its a horizontal one. Would there be any think that could go majorly wrong tho if I hung it vertically like blow up my boiler??? :)

what exactly is it that you have if you can hang it either horizontally or vertically? a towel rail or similar? a standard radiator would not work on the vertical even if the brackets work. the fins on the back of a standard radiator (single) or between the panels (double) direct the air flow upwards and heat the room through convection.

it wont blow the boiler but it probably wont function efficiently if not installed as it was intended. also it will be difficult to make the plumbing look anything other than a mess if you are running a pipes to the top then into the side of the rad.

Hi its a contempary modern one no fins i do want to plumb in from the top. As long as the boiler does not mess up I may try it first.Also I had a vertical one does it make any difference wether you plumb the pipes from the top??

you still havent said what type of radiator it is. and yes it does make a difference if you don't hang it in the way that it was designed - think about the position of the bleed valve. if you invert the radiator and the bleed valve is at the bottom you will not be able to purge the air from it after installation. this will airlock the radiator, it will not fill with water and will therefore remain cold.
