Hi

I have a small guest house with 9 bed rooms of which 3 are at the top of the building which consists of a cellar, ground floor and two other floors with half landings in between.
My problem is we are constantly having problems with low water pressure at the top of he building wh :? ere we have three rooms with sinks and showers.
At the moment we have three people staying in the rooms who work for the same company and all get up at
the same time to take a shower.
Is fitting a pump to the mains supply the thing to do and if so how?

No it is against water regs to fit pump to mains cold supply.

You need to check the flow rate, when 2 or 3 taps are opened at the same time then the flow rate will be poor.

Is it the hot/cold that is poor or both ?

It is against the water regulations to fit a pump to the mains cold water, you can only pump stored cold water.

Is the mains water pipe adequate for your house ? probably fine for a family of 4 or 5, or a house with 2 bathrooms - but not for a guest house.

We have a larger water mains pie to the building so i don't think its that.

I did not know it was against water regulations to fit a pump to the mains so thats somthing I'v learnt, is that somthing to do with metering if so we have a water meter i was thinking of putting the pump past the meter do you know if this can be done?

Its just the showers really that are effected they are electric with cold water feeds.

You'd have to fit a large cistern of some sort - where the mains cold water would fill via a float operated valve - then the water from the cistern could be pumped. The water board can only guarantee that water is safe to drink if there are no alterations to the mains cold water supply, fitting a pump is against these regulations.

Has this always been a problem - or has it just started ?

No problem,

It is not to do with metering it is to do with the rate at which water is drawn off the main.

It can effect pepole further up the line from, ie you switch on pump and supply dorps to next property along.
