Toilet not flushing properly

Morning gents,
When I flush my toilet it feels like there is no resistance through the handle and only a bit of water comes out. To get it to flush I have to flush the chain repeatedly as fast as I can about 20 times. And even then the water doesnt flush as strong as it used to.
I disconnected the handle so eliminate that, and pull the rod that comes out of the white thing (technical term), but that does the same.
Any ideas? Could it be that the toilet the toilet is blocked at some point or is a problem within the cistern?

It's almost certain the syphon flap has torn (thats the white thing) and needs replacing.. Do not use an opella make replacement (see my question) I had the same problem and now have to replace it for a 3rd. time..in as many weeks...

Nice one mate, I took it apart and half the flap was torn. Sorted now.

I had the same problem ie a torn membraine in the cistern unit. As I was in Wickes, I decided to purchase and replace the complete plastic cistern unit
New ball valve also fitted and Tank fills up ok to about 0.5 inch below the overflow pipe!
Handle lift wire had to be adjusted slighty in-order to fully open the ball valve. This has been done however it is still very difficult to flush the toilet without holding handle down very firmly each time.
Any suggestion would be appreciated

Here's a money saving tip for anyone else with a torn syphon valve.
Instead of buying a new syphon, dismantle it (this is extra easy if you have the 3-part syphon found in some cisterns as you don't need to take the cistern off the wall or mess with the piping!) and you should be able to replace the torn plastic. This can be cut out from an old plastic folder (like an A4 ring binder folder) and adjusted to fit the plunger. Re-assemble the syphon and try it out!
