Now that 'Skids' has sorted out my wc problem here is another one. I am moving my bathroom basin to another outside wall.

It originally emptied into a hopper, but the new location is about 3 metres away from it and I think the max is 1.7 metres for waste.

The new location is next to my soil stack which is cast iron, the logical move is to connect to the soil stack but is it a job that the DIYer can manage.

I'm beginning to think I might as well renew the soil stack, with the cost and effort required. Pity you can't run the waste into the soil pipe branch that comes from the pan.

You can run the waste into the snow box as long as you maintain the correct fall of 1 inch every 40 feet. There is no real maximum distance it can be run

There is always a reason behind the Reg’s, the trick is to know Why.

If you want to change the cast iron stack, your call, you will be able to drill a 50mm hole using a descent ‘hole cutter’. Use a ‘strap on boss’ with a ‘push fit rubber boss adaptor‘ to connect to the pipe. DO NOT seal with silicone sealant, if its fiddly use a ‘LITTLE’ silicone lubricant or a little hand cream.

You are correct about the 1.7m distance, the reason for this is that if you use a 32mm pipe, a ‘S’ or ‘P’ trap you stand a good chance of getting problems later with ‘trap seal loss’. Therefore of you need to run a waste pipe longer, go up a size to 40mm or use a ‘HEPvO’ valve, or both.

And as mentioned by richieplum, the fall need to be 1:40.
