Soundness test

Hi all. I've re-run all my cold supplies from the mains because I'm taking out the storage tanks from the loft. I've re-used some pipes that were already in place under florboards and behind walls etc. How can I do a propper soundness test of my new c/w system: I dont mind buying necessary equipment as long as it isn't to industrial and expensive. Also do I need to flush the system in any way?. Thank you so much, in advance.

Hi abloke,
hire a testing kit from Jewsons for the day.
Yes, remove the pump, fit a loop in its place, do a visual check first, connections are ALL tight, in-line valves the correct way around, air vents closed, pressure test ~ 1 1/2 times max working pressure or 3bar ~ whicever is the greater, for 1 hour, with no drop (1%), snag the issues.
flush the system, its your time ~ so mayby twice, if ok, fill the system, bleed the rads, check for leaks, drain down the system, reinstall the pump, refil, check for leaks, check the F&E for corrcet level, heat the system, and flush while hot. add corrosion protection.

You could test pipework using a test tee, hand bellows and a u gauge/manometer - can all be found on BES.co.uk

i think that skids has misread the question - his test refers to a heating system not the cold water main circulation.
