I'm thinking of ubiyng a new toilet/cistern. is a push-button, dual flush a good idea? if in say 2-3 years i need to replace the syphon (drop valve) is it as easy to do this as with a traditional syphon type flush? Are they standard sizes/heights, etc?? thanks for your advise.

The main advantage of a dual flush is enviromental awareness. If you use the half flush button then you are wasting less water which is a good thing. As far as replacements in the future for certain models is concerned then perhaps its a question you could put to the manufacturers of the system you are proposing to buy.

if you had to replace the flush mechanism on a close coupled you would have to take the whole toilet apart anyway and separate the cistern from the pan so its a pain in the butt either way anyway.

It is more likely that the inlet would need replacing which wouldnt be a problem. Unless your unlucky I would guess the actual flush would be good for 5 or so years.
