Hi,the water pressure in boiler keeps dropping, but then when topped up,the pressure will build up and overflow.
The boiler is set on timer but comes on in middle of night when not timed to come on ,any ideas.
cheers

The problems are not related.
The problem with the pressure loss, will be with the leaks you have described the joints should be broken, new fibre washers and joints re-made.
The pressure rising could be the plate heat-exchanger has corroded and the hot water and heating water will be mixing. With you having problems with the hot water temperature I am pretty sure the problem is with the plate heat-ex and not with the expansion vessel.
As for the heating coming on when not set to come on at that time, is either
a fault on the programmer
You're not using the timer properly
There is a frost stat on the boiler and it is coming on during the night when the temperature drops (i'm guessing this, as you have only said it comes on at night)
Hope this hepls
thanks
