Roof support

Hi we are building a medium size garage 1.5 storys high with dimensions 7m x 4.5 m the ridge runs along the 7m length and the pitch is 30 degrees to support open timber rafters and natural slate roof. The recommendation is to get a structural engineer to work out the load. Is that our only option. The cost we have been quoted for this is £450 + vat. Does that sound about right?

Thanks in advance of any comments and help.

Very wise. An architect would do just as well but probably cost around the same.

Yes it does. Shop around - you may get it cheaper in the current climate.

Cheers

Thanks for your quick reply. We had an Artchitect deign our project you would have thought for £4,000 he would have done the calculation, however you have provided us with confirmation on what we need to do now. Thanks very much.
