I used bitumen roof felt adhesive on brick around the base of my house by mistake. What are the consequences of this?

It hasn't been painted for a long time. Will the bitumen harm the bricks?

Bitumen will not harm the bricks but the stuff you used will dry out and crack in a short time so keep an eye on it.

What do you do when the Bitumen Roof Felt Adhesive starts to peel and the brick crumbles?
Is it ok to paint over Bitumen Roof Felt Adhesive with brick paint?

The Bitumen Roof Felt Adhesive is starting to peel and the brick is crumbling with it.
Why can I do about it?
Could I paint over it with brick paint?
