Pre Drilling Drive Screws for Corrugated Roofing?

I need to replace a section of corrugated bitumen roofing on my garage after the old sheet blew off in a storm.

The sheets are fixed with 'drive screws' with plastic caps. The drive screws are 75mm x 5mm.

Do I need to pre drill holes into the wood or can I just hammer the drive screws in?

thanks

Hi babybio
It is advisable to drill a clearance hole to allow for expansion and to minimise the risk of cracking the new sheet.

Thanks for the reply. I think I may not have been clear. I meant whether I need to pre drill the wood purlins that the drive screws will go into.

If so what size of hole is suitable for a 5mm nail?

thanks again.

Hi babybio
Suggest you use a 4mm drill.
