Hi Folks,
stuck my head up in the loft space on a house viewing (1930s terrace) and noticed a couple of areas where daylight can be seen through some cracks. Can see it in the

left and right corner areas at the front.

Picture quality isn't great - but is that the kind of repair that can be done from inside the loft? its not bordered so might be awkward to get around.

Hi mrbsponge,
Most likely that some of the mortar on the verge has fallen away, repair would need to be done from outside.
I’d be more concerned about the additional struts that have been added, there may be some basic structural defect - get a surveyor in.

Thanks for the heads up stoneyboy. I assume by the "additonal structs" you are meaning the vertical ones? This seems to be the case with a similarly styled terraced house 2 doors up from that one - that I also viewed. I'm wondering if this is a common thing. Looking through some picts from at least one other property that I've viewed I can see a similar thing going on. Not sure if it matters but I made a small typo in the description as its a 1930s not 1950s house.

Hi stoneyboy, thanks for the heads up. I assume "additional struts that have been added" is related to the vertical struts of wood. I noticed the same struts in another house that I viewed a couple of doors down (same 1930s terraced house style )

The question is why these struts were added - it looks like there are fairly substantial purlins and the struts look like they are supporting individual rafters. Perhaps some rafters are full of woodworm and need extra support?
