Soundproofing Floor Options

by Dreach » Sat Jul 18, 2009 2:27 pm

I live in an old cottage with low ceilings and am keen to eliminate some of the noise from people walking around upstairs.

I am considering removing the old thin floorboards, putting in some sound insulation boarding either between the beams or over the beams, putting some new thicker floorboards on top and then laying some cushioning underlay before relaying the carpet. I could also just keep the old floorboards and put the insulation boards on top of those and put the new floorboards on top.

Can you please advise on the most effective method?

Hi

If you are looking to simply minimise impact noise, I would simply suggest something like Cloud9 underlay.

I has excellent properties for removing impact noise. I'm about to do something similar myself.

Hope this helps!
