We Live in a large house made into flats. We have floorboards beneath us then a small gap and then the lower flats plaster board ceiling. the lower flat are complaining constantly of reverberated noise from our feet and pets playing. we have a thin carpet with rugs but need to do something more so was looking into flooring sound proof stuff. The problem is there are loads of different types and its so expensive! Any suggestions?
Also, We are on a list with our housing association for a noise disturbance test but they have no sound proofing policy/budget. Do you know where we can get advice or possible funding for this. Ta, Dansprawl.

Sadly impact noise is very difficult problem to answer particularly in the case of domestic conversions.
One approach is to install a floating floor in the upstairs flat in conjunction with a resilient mounted ceiling in the flat underneath. Also ensuring that all gaps in brickwork are sealed. Such major remedial work is not cheap and a matter for your landlord to resolve. Does your tenancy agreement provide for 'quiet enjoyment of the property'? You may want to speak to Citizen's Advice.
