Hi,

I am about to start constructing a project to build a shed (kit bought) and convert it to a soundproofed rehearsal room...Id like some thoughts on whether you think it was work (allow me to play my drums without falling out with everyone)

12x10 Apex shed
Reinforce the current frame with stud work timber
Fill between the studs with 75mm acoustic mineral wool slabs
Fix resilient (floating) bars across the studs
Apply 1 layer of 15mm acoustic plasterboard
Apply 1 layer of 2mm acoustic membrane (rubber)
Apply another layer of acoustic plasterboard

This will be on all walls including doors

I will then add a floating floor and carpet.

Sound absorption panels will then be added. along with an acoustic vent for airflow....

Any thoughts would be very very welcome as id hate to embark on this and arrive at the end for it not to have been worth it.

many thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,
I hope you have got good neighbours! I'm sure that they will be OK :-)

If you need more info on sound proofing you can check out our project about it (if you haven't already): https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/so ... e_home.htm

I would definitely recommend a quick call to Custom Audio Design (http://www.domesticsoundproofing.co.uk/) who are a company that specialise in domestic soundproofing. They are a long time advertiser with DIY Doctor and we have always got good feedback about them.

Good luck with the project!
