Soundproofing a Bedroom Door for Housemate Across the hall

Hi so I live with a roommate who goes to bed really early and is pretty much across the hall from me.
I like to game with friends, we talk and sometimes shout a lot when playing. The only time we get to do it is at night and it's keeping him awake.

Its a soundproofing mat big enough to go over the door and I thought if I attatched some velcro around the door frame I could roll that out each night and not disturb him?
Would it block out enough sound?
Would the sound leak through the Velcro?
Are there any better ways to do it?
Any help would be great!
