Hi there and thanks for looking!
I have a baxi bermuda 552 back boiler thats started to make a loud banging noise that travels all the way up my house? Its like someones hitting the radiators with a hammer!
To make matters worse, when anyone (plumbers) come to look at it, it refuses to do this and its driving me and my neighbour mad?
The gas valve and thermocouple have been replaced as well as a new radiator pump fitted all to no avail. please help.

A loud banging noise is normally associated with water boiling. When the noise occurs, check the small header tank in the loft. Is water being forced out of the expansion pipe? Is the water in the header tank hot?

You may have a faulty boiler thermostat or it is turned up too high.

Does the noise occur shortly after the boiler has ceased burning?

With the age of the boiler I would say the noise you're describing is probably kettling, when limescale builds up in the boiler and primaries and the pipe diameter becomes narrower the water struggles to get away from the boiler.

Normally the noise is worse when it's just the hot water on by itself (gravity hot water system). Nothing to worry about - more annoying than anything else. Descalers are very rarely a success in a system of that age, and a powerflush too much money to spend on a system of that age, plus what condition are the radiators, pipework and boiler in - any weak spots and a powerflush will find them - possibly flooding your house or at least damaging a carpet or two.

I would, put up with it until system packs in or you can afford a new installation.
