whirlpool washer "clean pump"

by bobanreg » Fri Sep 05, 2008 7:00 pm

Hi
Our whirlpool washer keeps stoping mid cycle and displays "clean pump"
After emptiying the water via the trap on the front at the bottom, I find no blockages etc then it will work fine for a few washes. It will then stop again for no apparant reason.
I have checked underneath and removed and cleaned pipes to and from the pump. The pump did feel a little warm-dont know if this is normal.
The hose from the drum has a "ping-pong" type ball in it. Feeling this pipe once before emptiying, felt as though it was stuck holding the water in the drum. Don't know how this ball works.
Appreciate any advice on what can be wrong.
Do you think it is worth fitting a new pump.
Thanks.
