changing electric ovens

electric oven has broke and got a 2nd hand one to put us on.
The old one, around 10 years old, seems to have been plugged using a standard plug socket.
The 'new' cooker looks as though it has been plugged directly into a dedicated cooker switch/ socket.
Am I ok to attach a plug to the 'new' cooker and plug in as the old one did or do I need an electrician to fit a dedicated cooker socket/switch?
