Replacing integrated washing machine with integrated dishwasher

We currently have an integrated washing machine in our kitchen and would like to put in its place dishwasher.

Option 1 - without having to buy a new unit door for the integrated dishwasher, can we simply take the unit door off the current integrated washing machine and attach it to the new integrated dishwasher?

Option 2 - How easy is it to put in a freestanding dishwasher in the place of where the integrated washing machine was? There is a plinth across the bottom of the kitchen units which I'm concerned about.

Any help or advice is welcome!

Hi

Firstly, in respect to the plinth, you should be able to remove it. In most cases they are clipped in and can be removed and replaced as needed.

In terms of removing and attaching the door, this will really depend on the type of door and how the door of the dishwasher opens up. Does it open outwards and swing down? If so, is there enough clearance between the door and the top of the plinth for the door to open fully or will it foul? Will the addition of the thickness of the unit door cause it to foul once opened up?

It may also be a good idea to contact the makers of your chosen dishwasher and ask them about fixing unit doors to the washer. Do they supply fixing brackets? If not, where can you get them to?

Moving on to actually installing the dishwasher - you will need to know what inlets it has e.g. hot and/or cold and also where the waste outlet is. As you currently have a washing machine there, this will need both water supply and also waste so these should already be in place or very near making installation much easier

Hope this helps
